Texas is constantly growing and changing, and that means Texas property development is continuously busy as well. If you’re a Texas property developer, you know how important it is to have the right equipment for the job; not just any old equipment manufacturer will do! That’s why Tellus Equipment Solutions offers a wide range of John Deere compact construction equipment, from skid steers to compact excavators, to help you get the job done the right way.
Let’s take a look at some of the best equipment categories and models to help you succeed in the busy and competitive world of Texas property development.
Skid Steers
Property developers know that skid steers are one of the best compact construction machines to utilize on construction projects. They’re small, versatile, and powerful machines that can be used for a variety of construction applications. From lifting and moving materials to leveling the ground to prep it for a big construction project, you can’t go wrong with a reliable John Deere skid steer.
Some of the best models we recommend are the John Deere 318G, 330G, and 332G. These are all models you can find at your local Tellus Equipment dealership.
The 318G features a 65-horsepower engine, perfect for small residential and urban infill projects where space is limited. Its 1,945-pound operating capacity means it can easily move heavy materials around the construction zone. The 330G is a mid-size machine with a step up in horsepower (91) and operating capacity (3,000 pounds). It’s great for building pad projects, drainage work, or land clearing. Finally, the 332G skid steer has 100 horsepower and a 3,600-pound operating capacity. It’s great for contractors who are tackling larger commercial projects and subdivision work.

Compact Track Loaders
Very similar to a skid steer, the compact track loader is an amazing, compact machine for Texas property developers. The big difference between a skid steer and a compact track loader is in the name; compact track loaders move about on tracked wheels rather than four separate wheels like a truck. These tracks give it more traction and maneuverability on rough and uneven terrain, which is common at work sites.
The 317G is an entry-level machine in the CTL lineup, but don’t let its lower price point and small stature fool you. The 317G has a 65-horsepower engine and 2,125 pound lift capacity. The tracks on the 317G make it perfect for working on soft soil after Texas rain or on sandy South Texas soil.
The 333G is a more powerful CTL with 100 horsepower and a lift capacity of 3,700 pounds. Its high-flow hydraulics power demanding attachments like forestry mulchers and brush cutters that transform overgrown acreage into buildable lots.

Compact Excavators

For job sites that need some digging power, you need a compact excavator. Unlike full-size excavators, John Deere compact excavators are made for getting around type job sites, through narrow pathways, and over rough terrain. Some great compact excavator options that we carry at Tellus include the 17 P-Tier and the 35G.
The John Deere 17 P-Tier excavator features a 14.5-horsepower engine and a total machine weight of 1.7 metric tons. Its variable-width undercarriage is made to squeeze through backyard gates or between existing structures. It’s an essential tool for working on residential projects in Texas subdivisions. Do you have clients who need a new pool? This compact excavator is perfect for pool excavations thanks to its power and small footprint.
For bigger jobs, the 35G is a great mini excavator option. It's a heavier machine at 3.6 metric tons, but features a zero-tail-swing design that lets operators dig trenches and footings right next to fence lines, buildings, and property boundaries. It’s also an ideal machine for foundation work, septic installations, and drainage projects on Texas property developments.

Compact Wheel Loaders
Compact wheel loaders are smaller, rubber-tired machines with a front-mounted bucket, and they’re fantastic machines for Texas property developments. These powerful trucks are primarily designed for loading, carrying, and dumping materials like dirt, gravel, sand, mulch, and debris, making them a versatile machine on a job site. They’re particularly helpful for both construction and demolition projects, and they move faster around job sites than both skid steers and compact track loaders.
A few CWL models we recommend are the 184 G-Tier, 244 P-Tier, and the 304 G-Tier. The 184 G-tier is a great entry-level model with 44 horsepower and a low-clearance design, making it useful in both outdoor and indoor applications. The 244 P-Tier is a mid-size loader built for developers who need to move a lot of fill dirt or base materials around a construction site. Finally, the 304 G-Tier is for large-scale projects with high-volume material movement. It’s a great option for developers who need to move a lot of material for less than the cost of a full-size loader.
